My own flag research and process
While designing my personal flag, I drew inspiration from my cultural background and my hobbies. These two subjects are a big part of my identity and in my opinion they will best represent me as a person on the flag. The aspects from my flag science research that interest me most are color symbolism and messages from flags.
I have decided that my flag is going to be an embroidery, in which I am going to use traditional Ukrainian cross stitch and modern textured embroidery techniques.
One of the interesting aspects of Ukrainian embroidery is the ability to encode messages in it. This could be an interesting topic for research in the context of fashion design. Cross stitch, because of its graphic nature and the ability to use different symbols, can be an effective way to create unique and personalized ornaments that not only decorate clothing but also have a certain meaning or message. This way can open new possibilities for creative expression in contemporary fashion design and contribute to the preservation and revival of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
I chose red and black for the cross stitch patterns. In traditional Ukrainian cross stitch, red is the color of the sun, happiness, protection, love and passion. Black is the color of pain, suffering, negative energy and energy of death. Here I interpret them as my artistic journey, during which I have experienced many peaks and valleys
